The United Nations’ decolonization committee adopted a draft Palestinian resolution on Friday evening requesting an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Israel’s prolonged occupation.
The resolution approved by the UN Fourth Committee in New York asks that the (ICJ) “urgently” weigh in on Israel’s “prolonged occupation settlement and annexation of the Palestinian territory” which were violating the Palestinians’ right to self-determination.
98 countries voted in support of the resolution 52 abstained and 17 voted against.
