UNRWA: Our services will continue until refugees issue is settled

Monday 8-January-2018

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) on Monday affirmed that it will continue to provide services in its areas of operation until a final solution to the refugees issue is found.

UNRWA spokesman in the Palestinian territories Sami Msha’sha’ said that UNRWA was mandated by the UN General Assembly to help the Palestinian refugees until a just and lasting solution to their issue is reached.

Msha’sha’ condemned in a press statement the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s accusation that UNRWA helps perpetuate the refugees problem holding the parties to the conflict responsible for entrenching the crisis.

UNRWA was established by a UN General Assembly resolution in 1949 to provide assistance and protection to five million Palestinian refugees scattered in Jordan Syria Lebanon West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The services offered by UNRWA include education health care relief social services and micro-credit loan programs.
