UNRWA denies electing employee to Hamas’s political bureau

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) denied on Friday electing one of its employees to a political position in Hamas’s recent internal elections.

The UNRWA said in a press release that it made the required investigations and confirmed that the UNRWA employee Sohail al-Hindi is not among the members of the Hamas political bureau in Gaza adding that he has nothing to do at all with these elections.

The UNRWA stressed that all of its employees are bound by the highest standards of impartiality independence and integrity in assuming their duties toward Palestinian refugees.

Local Palestinian and Israeli sources have reported lately that Hindi an UNRWA school principal was elected member in the Hamas political bureau in the internal elections that were conducted several days ago in the Gaza Strip.

The Hamas internal elections started in February 2017 and resulted in electing Yahya al-Sinwar as the new leader of the Movement in Gaza.
