The Union of UNRWA Employees has declared a general strike on Monday at all the agency’s headquarters and facilities in the Gaza Strip and the northern West Bank in protest at its persistence in ignoring the just demands of employees and refugees.
Head of the union Suhail al-Hindi told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that further protest steps would be taken until the UNRWA responded to the union’s demands.
Hindi noted that there had been no communication with the agency for about a week after it had showed reluctance to find solutions to the growing problems.
Last week a three-day strike led to the closure of UNRWA buildings in the West Bank and Gaza.
“The UNRWA administration treated us in arrogance and insolence. The general commissioner did not communicate with us till this moment refused to respond to our letters and did not even delegate a representative to talk with us” the union chief said in previous remarks.
