“UNRWA is Our Right until We Return” campaign was launched in Mar Elias Palestinian refugee camp in Beirut a couple of weeks ago with the participation of dozens of Palestinian and international organizations.
The campaign was so far joined by 44 institutions and associations from different countries and regions including Lebanon Syria Jordan Gaza the West Bank and various European countries.
The campaign’s media official Ahmed Al-Haj said that dozens of institutions and associations have declared their total support to the campaign in light of the growing risks targeting the UNRWA.
Speaking to the PIC reporter Al-Haj warned that attempts to target the UN agency mainly aim to target the Palestinian right of return.
Closing UNRWA or reducing its services will negatively affect the living conditions of more than six million Palestinian refugees he added saying that cancelling the UNRWA’s role will send a wrong message that the international community has abandoned just causes.
Closing UNRWA will also affect the host countries as it will further deepen their economic and social burdens he continued.
The UNRWA is Our Right until We Return campaign aims to raise awareness about the destructive strategy targeting UNRWA and to pressure national and international duty bearers to fulfill their obligations to take practical measures to protect Palestinian refugees and internally displaced persons’ rights Al-Haj underlined.
He pointed out that the campaign also included multiple activities and events calling for mass participation in these activities and events.
The campaign calls on all national and international actors to engage in popular activities and advocacy events he concluded.
