UNRWA announced on Wednesday that it has terminated a number of the contracts of its employees in the besieged Gaza Strip while others were changed to part-time contracts.
The PIC reporter revealed that a high-tension is prevailing among the UNRWA workers who are holding a sit-in in the headquarters of the UN agency in Gaza where escalation of protests are expected and an open protest has become imminent.
According to Head of UNRWA Employees Union in Gaza Amir al-Mishal the UN agency’s administration informed a number of its workers on the termination decision. Some 125 employees’ contracts were terminated and 580 others were transferred to part-time contracts.
The contracts of 285 other employees are going to be maintained until the end of the year which brings the number of the affected employees of Palestinian refugees in Gaza to about 1000.
