UPCOE to check on Palestinian refugees stranded at Belarus border

Monday 22-November-2021

The Union of Palestinian Communities and Organizations in Europe (UPCOE) declared on Monday the formation of a special committee to follow up on the situation of Palestinian refugees stranded on Poland-Belarus borders.

The UPCOE affirmed that it is following up the situation of all Palestinian refugees in coordination with the Palestinian community in Belarus.

The Union further expressed appreciation to the Belarus Red Cross for the assistance provided to the refugees hailing the Polish authorities’ role in saving refugees’ lives after being stranded in its forests.

The UPCOE also called on both Belarus and Poland to end the refugee crisis on their borders especially that a very cold winter is looming.

More than 2000 asylum seekers and migrants are still stranded on Poland-Belarus borders for several weeks after Polish authorities refused to let them in.

The situation is particularly acute for mothers and children stuck in the extreme cold weather and freezing temperatures without any humanitarian or medical aid.
