A White House official on Tuesday said his country would withhold about half the initial aid it planned to give the UNRWA a UN agency that serves the Palestinians.
The official told Reuters the US would provide 60 million dollars to the UNRWA while withholding a further 65 million dollars for now adding that the aid organization needed to make reforms.
Earlier the UNRWA affirmed its commitment to providing services to Palestinian refugees despite US threats to cut funding.
US president Donald Trump recently threatened to freeze 125 million dollars in funding for the UNRWA unless the Palestinian Authority decided to sit again at the negotiating table with Israel.
