WASHINGTON (PIC)– A high-ranking official in the US state department has unveiled on Tuesday that the US administration received the green light from the Congress to disburse 60 million dollars to bolster PA security forces loyal to PA chief Mahmoud Abbas.
The bountiful US money sums comes amidst a crushing economic blockade imposed by the US and its allies on the Palestinian people for more than one year now which killed scores of children and elderly people and left tens of thousands of families starving.
In March last year the USA and Israel led an unjust international economic blockade on the Palestinian people after Hamas Movement won the PA legislative elections in the “most honest election process in the Arab world” as testified by hundreds of international observes including Americans.
The official who spoke to two news agencies on condition of anonymity affirmed “We managed to soothe fears raised by the Congress in this regard” indicating that the money sums will be spent on PA forces loyal to Abbas and their immediate needs.
“The Congress informed the US state department of the decision late Monday” the official said adding “We believe the funds would answer Abbas’ urgent needs”.
US congressmen froze 86 million dollars allocated for Abbas forces on fears that the money might fall in the hands of Hamas that leads a PA unity government in coalition with Abbas’ Fatah Movement.
The Israeli occupation government welcomed the American step on condition that the money must be specifically used to train Abbas’ forces to prepare them for a possible future showdown with Hamas in Gaza Strip.
The US decision generated an overwhelming feeling of disgruntlement among the Palestinian people who have been starving for 14 months due to the US-led economic siege.
Alerted by the decision Hamas along with other Palestinian parties called on Abbas to reject the money. They described the money as “poisonous” and aimed at rekindling internal divisiveness and infighting in the Palestinian arena.
