War in Syria led Palestinians to seek shelter in stockyard

Thursday 12-January-2017

A report on Thursday by the Action Group for Palestinians of Syria said that the war in Syria led hundreds of Syrian and Palestinian families in Daraa Governorate to evacuate their houses due to the constant shelling and to take shelter at a stockyard for the Syrian-Libyan Cattle Company.

“This place which is located in Jillen village was a farm to raise cows before it was seized by an Islamic movement in the beginning of the Syrian revolution. After the Islamic movement abandoned it some Syrian and Palestinian families took it as shelter and then it turned it into a refugee camp” the report pointed out.

“Around 500 families live in the camp which was established by the local council of Daraa Governorate to protect the families from the cruelty of winter but in vain” the report added.

“Palestinian and Syrian refugees suffer from poor living conditions in the stockyard which was not designed for housing humans. There is neither electricity nor water supplies in addition to the spread of all sorts of diseases. Furthermore there is no medical center in the area and there is scarcity of aid supplied by international organizations” the report continued regarding living situations.

Palestinian and Syrian refugee families living in the stockyard appealed to international parties and UNWRA to provide solutions for their tragic conditions as soon as possible.
