Wennesland calls Haneyya discusses latest developments

Tuesday 5-April-2022

Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya and the special envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Middle East Tor Wennesland discussed the current political and field developments of the Palestinian issue via a phone call on Tuesday.

Haneyya brought up the crimes of the Israeli occupation in the West Bank the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem topped by the assassination crimes. The latest one was in the city of Jenin where five youths were martyred on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan.

“The Knesset member Ben Gvir who stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Israeli foreign minister Yair Lapid who led the provocative tour of Bab Al-Amud further provoke the feelings of Muslims in the holy month of Ramadan” Haneyya explained.

Haneyya called on the United Nations to assume its role in stopping the Israeli violations and keep the city of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque secured to enable the Muslims in the West Bank and the 1948 occupied land to reach the holy site peacefully.

The Hamas leader explained the Palestinian prisoners’ conditions in Israeli prisons where they lack basic human needs.

He also discussed with the special envoy the efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip and end its siege. The UN envoy for his part explained the United Nations efforts in this regard.

“The relationship with Hamas is constructive and strategic. I appreciate their efforts in all aspects” the UN envoy said.
