Wife of detained Hamas spokesman appeals for his safety

Wednesday 9-May-2007

AL-KHALIL (PIC)– The wife of Mohammed Jamal Al-Natshe has expressed absolute concern over safety of her husband who is being held in solitary confinement in Israeli occupation jails for four years.

The wife said that lawyer Shirin Aisawi was told by the Israeli prison authority when she tried to visit him that he would be transferred to isolation wards in Ayalon prison and thus she could not see him.

The wife was particularly concerned because the IPA refused to allow the lawyer to see him and said that she went to the Red Cross to inquire about her husband but she received no answer on the detention place of her husband.

She pointed out that her husband who was held in occupation jails since 17/8/2002 was sentenced to eight and a half years at the pretext of being a spokesman for Hamas Movement in Al-Khalil. He spent four of them in total isolation.

She described such IPA measures as “unjustified” and warned that her husband’s health condition was “not stable”.

Natshe had earlier spent 11 years in Israeli and PA prisons other than 9 months under house arrest in Ramallah. Natshe 49 had won a seat in last year’s parliamentary elections on the Hamas list.
