Youth groups in Gaza warn against closure of Aqsa Hospital

Wednesday 7-February-2018

Youth groups in central Gaza on Tuesday staged a sit-in in the main courtyard of al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah city to warn against the imminent collapse of health services provided by the hospital.

The participants in the sit-in carried placards demanding Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas to assume his responsibilities fully towards the Gaza population and support the health sector and its employees.

“The patients are facing slow death as a result of the blockade and the halted health services” spokesman for the Palestinian nursing association Khalil al-Daqran said in press remarks during the sit-in.

Daqran warned that more medical facilities would be shut down after the closure of Beit Hanoun hospital and other health institutions.

“Al-Aqsa Hospital could be closed any day because there is a severe shortage of fuel and this threatens the lives of more than 300 thousand people who frequent the hospital” he said.

He also affirmed that the youth gathering at al-Aqsa Hospital aimed to urge the local authorities and the international community to save the health sector from collapsing after 19 medical facilities had been closed depriving hundreds of thousands of having medical treatment.
