The coronavirus has deepened the suffering of the Palestinian refugees living in Neirab camp north of Syria further exacerbating the poor health sector of the camp.
The PIC correspondent affirmed that the UNRWA Dispensary affirmed that ten people from the Neirab camp have been recently infected by the virus.
The UNRWA Dispensary pointed out that a new coronavirus is hitting the camp calling on the residents to take precautions to prevent further deterioration.
Since the pandemic outbreak large numbers of Palestinian refugees have been infected with COVID-19 or have died due to the severe shortages of medical supplies in the camp.
Media chief of the Action Group for Palestinians in Syria (AGPS) Fayez Abu Eid said that the new spread of the virus came due to a lack of knowledge and awareness adding that UNRWA clinics don’t fulfill their duties towards the refugees in the camp.
Speaking to the PIC reporter he said that no serious measures were taken to stop the wave’s spread.
The new wave of coronavirus really threatens the lives of the residents especially the elderly and chronically-ill patients he added.
For his part refugee Yasin Mohammed stressed that the spread of the virus poses a real threat to the camp in light of the growing crisis facing the health sector.
He pointed out that there is a severe shortage of medicines.
Neirab camp is the largest official camp in Syria and is 13 kilometers east of the city of Aleppo near the Aleppo airport.
The camp was established between 1948-1950 for refugees from northern Palestine on 0.15 square kilometers in and around army barracks constructed by the Allied Forces during World War II.
Approximately 40000 registered Palestinian refugees live in Neirab. The camp suffers from overcrowding and a lack of privacy.
