Late journalist Khaled Amayreh The Sheikh of the Palestinian Press

Saturday 15-July-2023

In the midst of important events and developments in the Palestinian arena late journalist Khaled Amayreh stood out throughout his journalistic career as a staunch defender of his people and their national cause.

Amayreh passed away on Thursday July 13 2023 at the age of 66 after a long journey of hard work and dedication during which he earned the respect and appreciation of his fellow journalists who have called him &ldquoThe Sheikh of the Palestinian Press”.

Journalist Nawaf al-Amer one of his closest friends told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that Amayreh was one of the most prominent defenders of the Palestinian cause in his writings describing him as a &ldquocontemporary media reference&rdquo and &ldquoone of those who played an important role in conveying the Palestinian narrative through different media outlets.&rdquo

Amer pointed out that Amayreh worked for many local Arab and international media institutions including the English website of the Palestinian Information Center.

&ldquoAmayreh deserves to be known as the Sheikh of the contemporary Palestinian journalism and must be officially honored. I think the least we can do for him is to have his picture printed on a postage stamp&rdquo Amer said.

&ldquoAbu Saif (Amayreh) was like a flowing river and when sitting with him the best thing you could do was to only listen to him quietly&rdquo Amer added.

&ldquoHe was one of those who were proficient at the media language and at promoting and defending the Palestinian cause and highlighting the Palestinian people’s grievances in English language which the Western world understands&rdquo he underlined.

&ldquoAmayreh paid a price for defending his people when the occupation state prevented him from traveling abroad for many years and attending international competitions conferences and lectures&rdquo he added.
