Yasser Raafat Barbakh finished his academic studies at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Alexandria University, Egypt, far from his home country.

Later, he decided to return to his homeland Palestine, stating, “We, the sons of this land, if we take our knowledge and culture abroad, what good is it for our country?”

He then joined Al-Aqsa University in Gaza and obtained a master’s degree in diplomacy and international relations.

He was an ambitious and persevering person, constantly discussing his future and the grades he aimed to achieve, planning conferences, seminars, and sessions to attend.

Despite his young age, he was a fierce politician, silencing everyone in his presence with his words, speeches, and knowledge.

His final request was to have inscribed on his grave, “Here lie those who loved life and did all they could to achieve it.”

Yasser was killed in an Israeli airstrike on October 23, 2023.

“They Are Not Numbers” is a series of stories honoring Palestinian victims who were killed in the ongoing Israeli aggression.

Since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, more than 40,000 people have been killed, wounded, or reported missing under the rubble.
