On the ninety-sixth day of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, the “war journalist” with a touch of dark comedy, Abdul Rahman Batah, known as “Abood Batah,” continues to broadcast his messages from resilient Gaza.

These messages are eagerly awaited by millions around the world, seeking reassurance about his well-being as he has become a part of their daily lives. People tune in to hear news about the people of Gaza and the hardships they endure, as his innocent and spontaneous facial expressions reflect the dreams of Gaza and Palestine’s children to be liberated from oppression, tyranny, and the heinous aggression.

With his simplicity and straightforward discourse, Abood Batah manages to touch the hearts of his followers. He alternately makes them laugh and cry, leaving them perplexed in their emotions. He bombards the “heartstrings” with his words and plays on the soul’s strings, captivating the audience until the last word of the scenes he shares on social media.

A special kind of war correspondent

Khaled Safi, a media expert, sought to understand Abood’s message and commented on his latest video, saying: “To understand what Abood is doing in such videos.” He simultaneously affirmed that Abood is strongly hitting the Israeli media fabrications through his periodic messages from the northern Gaza Strip. Israel claims to have evacuated citizens from the north, but Abood, with his familiar smile from the roof of their homes, says the opposite, and people believe him!

Safi points out that “Abood, with his personal mobile, dilapidated home internet, almost zero resources, delivers, in about 90 seconds, words that reassure millions of followers about his resilience and that of hundreds of thousands who stayed with him in the north.” He concludes by saying, “Unlike the (Israeli) occupation, whose media machinery cannot reassure settlers about their soldiers’ status and does not allow the publication of any information about them around the clock.”

Abood Batah, a special type of war correspondent, addresses a generation that the occupation cannot reach and whose tools it cannot master.

Resilience and exposing Israeli crimes

Batah gained media prominence as “Abood” among activists who drew attention and influence as the war on Gaza continued, causing horrors and tragedies for more than 2.3 million people living in the small enclave overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

Batah (16 years old) tells Sanad News Agency, “He lives like all the people who decided to endure in their homes and not evacuate despite the bombing, destruction, and siege.”

The Palestinian boy explains that he found a significant opportunity in the war’s conditions to showcase his talent by highlighting the horrors and tragedies of the war against the Palestinian people.

He adds that through his work, he tries to show the world that all Palestinians, children, women, and the elderly, suffer from the torrent of bombing, destruction, terror, and deprivation of water and food.

For the fourth consecutive month, Israel is waging one of the harshest wars in the twenty-first century against the Gaza Strip, which has already been under siege for 17 years.

According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, more than 23,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the Israeli war on October 7, including more than 9,200 children.

The Israeli war has also displaced 1.9 million people from their homes in Gaza, amid massive destruction estimated by the United Nations to have affected more than 60% of residential homes and infrastructure.

The events of the war on Gaza have attracted global attention, and following the videos prepared by Palestinian activists has become a matter of great interest worldwide.
