In yet another act of brutality, Israeli occupation forces have completely destroyed Gaza’s seaport during their assault on the Strip, as part of a systematic war of annihilation targeting both people and infrastructure.
From the earliest days of the war, Gaza’s port was subjected to relentless airstrikes that directly targeted its infrastructure, leaving behind massive destruction across its docks and vital facilities.
The port—once a lifeline for hundreds of Gazan fishermen—is now nothing but scattered debris. Missiles ripped apart its docks and boats, turning the once-thriving harbor into a wasteland of ashes and silence.
Fisherman Mohammed Al-Kahlout gazes in despair at his shattered boat amid the wreckage. “They left us with nothing,” he says. “This isn’t a war against resistance—it’s a war against every Palestinian in Gaza. They knew this port was our livelihood, yet they destroyed it completely.”
A systematic attack on infrastructure
The targeting of the port was not an isolated event. It is part of the occupation’s broader strategy to erase Gaza’s means of survival. Alongside the port, airstrikes have also hit markets, factories, and farmland, deepening the humanitarian crisis for more than two million Palestinians who have already been under siege for years.
Economic expert Mohammed Abu Jiab warns that “the destruction of Gaza’s port has severe consequences. It wasn’t just a launch point for fishermen—it was a rare economic outlet that could have helped alleviate some effects of the blockade. This attack only further isolates Gaza and worsens its economic and living conditions.”
An environmental and humanitarian catastrophe
Beyond the economic toll, the port’s destruction also threatens an environmental disaster. The wreckage of burned boats and fuel spills in the water endanger marine life, further harming Gaza’s already fragile fishing industry.
Environmental activist Mahmoud Al-Haj condemns the devastation: “This isn’t just the destruction of a port—it’s an environmental crime. The occupation isn’t only killing people; it’s killing the sea itself.”
Gaza will rise again
Despite the overwhelming destruction, the people of Gaza refuse to surrender. In a powerful display of resilience, some fishermen have been seen trying to repair what remains of their boats—a clear message that Gaza will not be erased and will rebuild its port no matter how hard the occupation tries to wipe out life in it.
Veteran fisherman Haj Hassan stands firm in his resolve: “Today, they destroyed the port. But tomorrow, we will rebuild it. Gaza has never fallen, and it never will. Like always, it will rise from the ashes.”
