Abu Kweik to resume hunger strike after his administrative detention extended

Saturday 26-May-2012

RAMALLAH (PIC)– Hamas official Hussein Abu Kweik said he would go on open hunger strike once again to protest the Israeli ourt order to extend his administrative detention for three months.

Quds Press quoted his wife as saying that the Israeli occupation extended the administrative detention of her husband Abu Kweik without leveling charges against him for the third consecutive time after his arrest last year.

She noted that the Israeli intelligence agency demanded the court to extend the administrative detention of her husband for four months but the higher Israeli court decided to extend it for three months and give him a guarantee to release him afterwards without extension.

Her husband rejected the court decision and threatened to resume his hunger strike if he was not released.

The lawyer of Abu Kweik stated that this court repudiated the Egypt-brokered agreement between the Israeli prison authority and the hunger strikers which stipulated that the Israeli side would not extend the administrative detention of prisoners.

The lawyer said the Israeli judge stated during the hearing that he was not aware of this agreement and did not receive new instructions on how to deal with administrative detainees while the Israeli prosecutor representing the intelligence agency claimed that the news report about the nature of the agreement was inaccurate.

The wife of Abu Kweik appealed to the Egyptian mediator to intervene to pressure the Israeli occupation to respect the agreement and release her husband.

Abu Kweik survived an Israeli assassination attempt in 2003 as he was along with his first wife Bushra driving their three children to school. The attack claimed the lives of Bushra and their three children.

In another incident two other prisoners Tha’er Halahla and Bilal Diyab threatened to resume their hunger strike if the Israeli side violated its agreement with the hunger strikers and did not give them their rights.

A lawyer for Addameer association for prisoners and human rights stated that prisoner Diyab suffers from a constant severe stomachache and headache and his daily food is only milk and soup.

The lawyer added that the Israeli jailers still want to handcuff Diyab and shackle his legs all the time when he is in hospital so he refuses to go there because of this maltreatment.

The lawyer said that prisoner Halahla also suffers from pains in the stomach the pancreas and the back and refuses to go to hospital for the same reason.
