The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor affirmed on Friday that Israeli occupation forces (IOF) executed the elderly man Kamel Muhammad Nofal, a 65-year-old retired UNRWA employee, by shooting him while trying to inform the IOF about the disability suffered by his children at the time of their arrest in Gaza City.

Euro-Med Monitor explained, in a statement, that the IOF asked the residents of a building owned by Nofal, in Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in Gaza, to leave the building before arresting them, according to local sources.

All of the residents left including the elderly man, his wife, Fatima Jamil Tamraz, 63, three of his children and their wives and children; most of them are people with disabilities. They were 23 people including 9 children, the youngest of whom is 4 months old.

The disabled people were not responding well to the IOF soldiers who were giving them instructions at the time of their arrest, which made their father intervene to explain to the soldiers in Hebrew the disability of his children. However, he was ruthlessly shot dead in front of his family without giving him a chance to explain the situation.

All of his children Hossam, 40, Ahmed, 36, Mahmoud, 32, and his daughter Wafa, 31, are deaf and dumb in addition to their poor vision.

The IOF soldiers, who were deployed in the area, rounded up the rest of the family members. Yet, it was not clear what happened to them.

The Euro-Med Monitor confirmed that its teams are exerting efforts to know the fate of the arrested family members, expressing deep concern over the fate of those with disabilities who lost their ability to speak while being interrogated by Israeli soldiers.

The Monitor revealed that its teams have recently been recording escalated crimes of field executions and physical liquidation committed by the IOF against civilians, especially in Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in Gaza City, where massive house raids are being carried out.

It pointed out that Israeli army carries out field executions as a systematic policy of revenge and intimidation against civilians, taking advantage of the international silence that amounts to complicity in the Israeli genocidal crime, which has been ongoing in Gaza since October 7.

The Monitor also called on the Israeli authorities to reveal the fate of the elderly Nofal’s family members, to release them all and ensure their safety.

The human rights organization has renewed its demand to open an urgent international investigation into the horrific crimes committed by the Israeli army in Gaza, to enforce an immediate ceasefire and to activate all international mechanisms to investigate the crimes committed in order to achieve justice.
