The Hamas Movement held the US administration responsible for the death of an American soldier who set himself on fire in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC, denouncing the genocide being committed by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas said in a statement, “The Biden’s administration bears full responsibility for the death of the US airman Aaron Bushnell because of its unlimited support of the Zionist entity in its genocidal war against our Palestinian people.”

Hamas explained that Bushnell “sacrificed his life to shed light on the Zionist massacres and ethnic cleansing against our people in the Gaza Strip.”

The Movement expressed its condolences and solidarity with the family and friends of the American pilot.

“The American pilot, Aaron Bushnell, immortalized his name in advocacy of human values and the rights of the Palestinian people who are suffering because of the US administration’s unjust policies, following the steps of the American activist Rachel Corrie, who was deliberately crushed by an Israeli military bulldozer in Rafah in 2003. She confronted an Israeli massacre with her unarmed body, refusing to demolish the homes of citizens in Gaza, but she was killed in cold blood, becoming an icon of global solidarity with the people of Palestine,” Hamas said.

On Monday, the Pentagon confirmed the death of a US Navy pilot, after he set himself ablaze outside of the Israeli embassy in Washington, in protest against the war on Gaza.

Pilot Aaron Bushnell (25 years old) died from serious burns he sustained, on Sunday, when he set his body on fire in protest against the war on Gaza.

On Monday, Bushnell headed towards the Israeli embassy in Washington. Upon his arrival, he poured gasoline over his head and clothes, and set himself on fire while shouting “Freedom for Palestine” repeatedly until he stopped breathing. An official at Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that he had died.

In a video that the 25-year-old American pilot live streamed on Twitch, Bushnell is seen walking down the street, stating: “I’m about to engage in an extreme act of protest, but compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, it’s not extreme at all. This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal.”

The Palestinian flag was placed in the background of the video, with the words “Free Palestine” written on it.
