Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, head of the Higher Islamic Council in Occupied Jerusalem, has condemned the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) for starting recently to build an elevator project at the Aqsa Mosque’s western wall, describing it as “part of a major Judaization plan to Judaize the area around the Mosque.”
In a statement on Tuesday, Sheikh Sabri pointed out that the IOA claims that this elevator project is intended to facilitate the access of elderlies and people with special needs to the holy site and to make the area ready for the aerial tramways that had already been under construction for some time.
Sheikh Sabri described the Israeli construction of elevators at the western wall as an “attack on Islamic mortmain property because the land this project was built on belongs to the Islamic Awqaf Authority.”
Sheikh Sabri also called the elevator project an “Israeli attack on the Aqsa Mosque because the western wall is part of the Islamic holy site.”
He warned that such a project is aimed at changing the landscape in Jerusalem and around the Mosque and showing the occupation regime as the controlling authority in the holy city.
