The Israeli occupation government postponed on Saturday evening the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the six Israeli captives who were handed over by the Hamas Movement earlier today.
Israel’s public broadcasting corporation quoted a government official as saying that the release of the Palestinian prisoners was delayed at the behest of premier Benjamin Netanyahu until he finishes his consultations with the security cabinet.
In this regard, senior Hamas official Nahed al-Fakhouri said there were a delay in the release of the Palestinian prisoners and violations against them, accusing Israeli jailers of assaulting the prisoners who were supposed to be released today.
Fakhouri also accused the Israeli government of attempting to tamper with the list of the prisoners slated for release, affirming that his Movement is ready to release all the Israeli captives in exchange for all the Palestinian prisoners.
According to different Palestinian media outlets, the Israeli occupation authority is expected to release a seventh group of 620 Palestinian prisoners on Saturday as part of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement.
These prisoners include 23 children, one woman and 445 detainees from Gaza, who were kidnaped from Gaza during the Israeli genocidal war.
97 of those prisoners will be forcibly deported from the occupied Palestinian territories.
