EL-BIREH (PIC)– Palestinian captive Mohammed Naji Abu Hamid has started a hunger strike in Israeli captivity protesting his solitary confinement.
The ministry of prisoners said on Saturday that Abu Hamid started his open-ended hunger strike on Thursday.
The ministry’s lawyer Rami El-Elami said that Abu Hamid was held in Askalan jail since 24th March in very harsh incarceration conditions. He added quoting Abu Hamid that he would not stop his strike until he is released from solitary confinement.
Abu Hamid from Am’ari refugee camp near Ramallah has been in prison since July 2003. He is serving three life sentences.
Meanwhile a non-governmental society organized a sit-in in front of Gilboa prison on Friday night protesting Israeli violations of rights of Palestinian prisoners.
Participants hoisted placards denouncing the Israeli occupation and its policies against prisoners and chanted pro-prisoners slogans.
