Egyptian official charges Dahlan with inciting civil war

Tuesday 9-January-2007

CAIRO (PIC)– An official Egyptian source has charged Palestinian MP Mohammed Dahlan with inciting civil war in his speech on Sunday in a rally organized in Gaza to celebrate his Fatah faction’s 42nd anniversary.

The official told the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper that Dahlan’s speech poured oil on fire and was encouraging internal feudal fighting in the Palestinian street.

He pointed out that Dahlan did not heed Cairo’s call for a halt to media escalation and to calm things down.

The source meanwhile revealed that the Egyptian security delegation residing in the Gaza Strip had contributed in the release of Mahdi Al-Hanbali the deputy mayor of Nablus who was abducted by armed Fatah elements a few days earlier. He said that PA interior minister Sa’eed Siyam asked the Egyptian delegation in a telephone conversation to intervene and seek Hanbali’s release.

For its part the Hamas Movement adopted a similar position in a statement read by its spokesman in Gaza Fawzi Barhum in which it said the Movement would never allow Dahlan and his followers to ignite a civil war in Palestine.
