The Palestinian detainee Kifah Hattab suspended his open hunger strike after the administration of Nafha Israeli jail agreed to comply with some of his demands.
The non-governmental Voice of Prisoners radio said on Sunday that Hattab from Tulkarem city who was held in Nafha desert jail announced the suspension of his open hunger strike last night which he started 32 days ago demanding to be treated as a war prisoner.
Hattab’s sister said that her brother’s decision is not final and added that he may resume it in case the Israeli authorities show no commitment to their promises according to the radio.
The 52-year-old Hattab who used to be a captain pilot was detained on 4th July 2003 after the Israeli military sweep of the territories ruled by the Palestinian Authority.
The Israeli authorities denied him family visits two years ago because he refused to wear the prisoners’ outfit.
Hattab who graduated from the Yugoslav Aviation Academy in 1985 is suffering a serious health condition especially the pains in his back and knee caused by the continuous hunger strike.
