MP: PLC session to be convened soon over Abbas’s violations

Tuesday 20-December-2016

Serious attempts have been underway to convene a session of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) at the soonest time possible secretary of Hamas parliamentary bloc Faraj al-Ghoul said Monday.

Hamas MP Faraj al-Ghoul said a PLC session is expected to be held soon to seek possible ways to cease the violations committed by the Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas.

Al-Ghoul attributed the attempts to convene a PLC session to Abbas’s manipulation of the act of decision-making and his violations of the Basic Law and of the PLC internal regulations.

He slammed Abbas for stripping five Fatah MPs of their immunity dubbing the move “a barefaced crime” and a “groundless endeavor.”

He leveled heavy criticism at Abbas calling him a president that overstayed his term and someone with an expired legitimacy.

“Abbas has been helplessly struggling to renew his expired legitimacy and ruin the national institutions namely the PLC in an attempt to manipulate decision-making as an immune autocrat” the MP stated.

He further spoke out against the PA assault on a sit-in staged by Palestinian MPs at the Red Cross headquarters in Ramallah calling such an attack “a violation of international law” and of “the right to peaceful demonstrations and the freedom of expression.”

On Sunday evening PA troops stormed the Red Cross office after they cordoned it off and forced the “rebel” Fatah MPs out of the building.

Al-Ghoul added that the so-called “constitutional court” established by Abbas aims to “demonize the Palestinian opposition and legitimize the PA breaches of the law.”

He warned of Abbas’s intent to dissolve the PLC and hold sway over all national privileges in an attempt to find a legal cover for his incessant violations from whose disastrous fallouts the Palestinians have been suffering for decades.
