Silwan residents refuse to give up historical sites

Wednesday 29-November-2017

Residents of Silwan district in Occupied Jerusalem have rejected the Israeli high court of justice’s decision to order the Israeli authorities and Elad society (Jewish group) to find open areas to establish projects for them in exchange for annexed archaeological sites.

“We reject the Israeli occupation court’s decision in order not to make it a precedent and give settler groups an excuse to grab our lands at the pretext they represent a cultural heritage for the Jewish people” spokesman for Silwan residents Fakhri Abu Diyab told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC).

Abu Diyab said that Elad society and the Israeli authorities seized about 10 dunums of historical sites in Silwan and fenced them on allegations that this spot is part of the alleged Jewish cultural heritage.

“These are occupied areas and it is illegal to change its status and identity according to all international laws and norms” he underlined.

“We as residents must protest this step and seek help from international institutions and gatherings” the spokesman added.
