Breast cancer marathon staged in Jenin

Wednesday 1-November-2017

A marathon was staged in the northern occupied West Bank province of Jenin on Tuesday to mark the World Breast Cancer Day.

The marathon wraps up a series of events held in the city as part of an awareness-raising campaign.

“The world’s second leading cause of death among women after cardiovascular diseases is breast cancer. 17% of cancer-stricken patients are diagnosed with breast cancer” Jenin’s Health Department Director Wisam Sbeihat said during the competition.

He added that 25 persons have caught breast cancer in Jenin since early March and that the tumor claims the lives of 132 persons annually.

Sbeihat also said women aged above 40 should undergo breast checks every couple of years and those aged above 50 once every year.
