A news conference will be held on Saturday by the freedoms committee in the West Bank outside the headquarters of the Palestinian Authority (PA) preventive security agency in Jenin city to protest the illegal detention of citizens at the behest of mayors.
Member of the freedoms committee Khalil Assaf has called on media outlets and journalists to participate in the news conference to be held at 11:00 am today
According to Assaf the news conference will be staged in particular to highlight the issue of prisoner Ahmed Jarrar a resident of Burqin town in Jenin who received a court release order but the PA preventive security said he would remain in detention “on the Jenin mayor’s own responsibility.”
The detention of citizens on mayors’ responsibility is a pretext used systematically by the PA security apparatuses in order to retain them in jail with no legal grounds.
The family of Jarrar had staged a sit-in on Thursday outside the headquarters of the preventive security to demand it to respect the court verdict calling for releasing its son.
