Palestinian ex-prisoners and their families rallied on Sunday morning outside the office of the Palestinian Authority (PA) prisoners’ committee in al-Bireh to protest the suspension of their salaries.
Ex-prisoner Abdullah Abu Shalbak told the PIC the rally comes to speak up against the infringement of the rights of Palestinian prisoners and their families.
“Prisoners and ex-prisoners have seen it all in Israeli jails. They have sacrificed their freedom for their people and motherland” he said. “Why on earth have our families’ sole livelihoods been cut?”
“Eid is in the offing. How can I put a smile on my children’s face? I can neither buy new clothes nor bring them gifts” stated Abu Shalbak.
“On the same day my salary was frozen doctors decided to amputate my mothers’ leg” added Abu Shalbak.
The rally-goers called on the head of the prisoners’ committee and the concerned bodies to take urgent action and live up to their obligations as regards the Palestinian ex-prisoners and their families.
