Israel has started its preparations for the festival of lights in the Old City of Jerusalem to mark the 50th anniversary of its occupation of east Jerusalem as part of its attempts to portray the Palestinian Arab city as a Jewish metropolis.
Illuminated and holographic Judaic emblems including the so-called Star of David have been used to make Jerusalem look like a Jewish city.
According to the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) reporter in the city preparations are being made by the Israeli occupation authority to hold events to mark the anniversary in different areas of Jerusalem including the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood near the Old City and the ethnically cleansed village of Lifta.
Jerusalemite activist Fadi Matwar said that Israel’s festival of lights is aimed at sending a message to the tourists who visit Jerusalem that the holy city is Jewish describing the event as part of the Israeli measures intended to obliterate the Islamic and Christian landmarks.
