The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas condemned on Wednesday the decision of the Palestinian Authority government led by Rami Hamdallah to impose salary cuts on the PA employees in the Gaza Strip and declared solidarity with the employees’ demands.
In a statement by the Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum he described the decision as “arbitrary and irresponsible” stressing that it is aimed at tightening the crisis in the Gaza Strip and weakening its steadfastness.
Barhoum confirmed his Movement’s solidarity with the demands of all employees calling on the PA government to stop discriminating between the Palestinian people in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip and assume its duties toward the Gazan society.
The PA government announced on Tuesday that the cuts imposed on the March salaries of the PA employees included canceling bonus payments only without prejudice to the basic salary. However some sources reported that these cuts amounted to 30% of the overall salary.
