WAC opens 12th exhibition for traditional handicrafts

Women’s Affairs Center (WAC) in Gaza opened on Sunday 19/3/2017 its twelfth exhibition titled “Our Women’s Products” displaying a range of traditional handicrafts and products with the participation of 64 female Palestinian artists in the coastal enclave.

During the opening ceremony the WAC director Hedaya Shamoun said that the exhibition aims to increase awareness toward women’s role in developing the Palestinian society calling for encouraging the steadfastness of Palestinian women.

Shamoun asked the civil institutions and women’s associations to increase their efforts to empower women pointing out that awareness and development can only be achieved by a national unity.

She called on the Palestinian factions in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to unite and work together to rebuild and develop the Palestinian culture.

Artist Manal Abu Safar excelled in inscribing drawings and words that represent the Palestinian heritage on glass. She told the PIC reporter that her products are the outcomes of her own ideas aimed at elevating the Palestinian culture.

In a message to the Palestinian young men and women Abu Safar said that they should keep trying and never despair to achieve success and creativity.

Mai al-Najjar who has been working for more than ten years in hand embroidery and artifacts as a source of livelihood said that she also seeks to promote the Palestinian heritage. Najjar called on Palestinian youths to work hard to enhance the Palestinian culture and arts.
