Aqsa Mosque guards on Wednesday morning warded off an extremist Jewish settler after he tried to enter the Dome of the Rock exploiting the presence of police protection.
The Israeli police closed at 10 o’clock in the morning al-Maghariba Gate of the Aqsa Mosque after Jewish settlers ended their tours at the Islamic holy site which start every day at seven o’clock in the morning
According to the Islamic Waqf Authority in the holy city 42 settlers desecrated in the morning the Aqsa Mosque’s courtyards in groups through al-Maghariba Gate when one of them went to the stairs leading to the Dome of the Rock and threatened to forcibly enter it.
However Palestinian guards at the site intervened and prevented the settler from stepping into the building before Israeli policemen there spotted him and escorted him out of the Mosque.
The Israeli occupation police allow Jewish settlers to defile the Aqsa Mosque on a daily basis except on Fridays and Saturdays at the behest of the government as a prelude to controlling the Islamic site and dividing it between Muslims and Jews.
