Livni cancels Brussels trip to avoid arrest over Gaza war crimes

Friday 20-January-2017

Former Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni has cancelled her participation in a conference to be held in Belgium to avoid an arrest warrant issued against her over her involvement in war crimes during Israel’s 2008-2009 military aggression against the Gaza Strip.

Head of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor Rami Abdu stated on his Facebook page that the name of Livni had been removed from the register of the participants in the anti-BDS conference to be staged next Monday by a pro-Israel European Christian group.

Abdu said that Livni took this step after the federal prosecutor’s office in the country affirmed that the former minister would be arrested upon her arrival in Brussels in order to interrogate her over a complaint filed against her by Gazan war victims.

He noted that this complaint had already been filed against Livni and other Israeli officials on June 23 2010 by lawyers on behalf of Palestinian victims of war crimes.
