Eleven Fatah supporters injured in internal fight in Gaza

Sunday 1-January-2017

Eleven Fatah activists were injured on Saturday evening in Gaza due to a quarrel between supporters of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and the supporters of his arch-rival Mohammed Dahlan.

According to Quds Press the fight took place in the ceremony at the Square of the Unknown Soldier which was the place where celebrations for the 52th anniversary of the establishment of the Fatah movement had started.

According to medical sources the injuries were transferred to al-Shifa hospital west of Gaza where they were diagnosed to be mild or moderate while one of the injuries was suffering from a stab wound in the lower part of his body.

Fatah began its celebrations of its 52th inception anniversary in the presence of a number of its leaders most notably Ahmed Helles a Central Committee member.

The dispute between Abbas and Dahlan dates back to several years ago. The Central Committee of Fatah headed by Abbas decided in June 2011 to expel Dahlan and transfer him to the public prosecutor on charges of financial corruption and murder.

Recently Abbas decided to remove the parliamentary immunity of five MPs from Fatah parliamentary bloc and they included Mohammed Dahlan as well as Jamal Tirawi Shami Shami Najat Abu Bakr and Nasser Juma.
