Medic Al-Qutatti: Israel kills a medic with a white gown

Sunday 12-August-2018

His white gown which he wore during his work with his volunteer team did not spare him the Israeli oppression machine turning that gown into red; he followed the footsteps of the medics Razan Al-Najjar 23 and Musa Abu Hassanein 35 both killed by Israel.

Medic Abdallah Sabri Al-Qutatti 22 was shot by an Israeli sniper during his volunteer work at Al-Awda camp east of Rafah on Friday (10/8/2018). He was hit by a bullet in the back which penetrated through his chest.

As for every Friday he went out to participate in the Great March of Return in order to perform his professional and national duty. He participated in providing aid for the injured people at Al-Awda camp east of Rafah governorate in the southern Gaza Strip but this time he returned as a dead body.

Despite the bitterness of loss and pain caused by the killing the family of the martyr Abdullah Al-Qutatti bid farewell to her son with ululation and roses as if he was a groom on the night of his wedding.

After bidding farewell to her martyred son Al-Qutatti’s mother wondered what crime he had committed to be killed in cold blood as he tried to rescue the wounded participating in the return marches.

Speaking of the merits of the martyr his mother told the PIC reporter “Abdullah was a gifted persistent and smiling man who did not carry hatred against anyone and was loved by all.”

“Abdullah provided medical help to all people thus the wounded people he helped came to his funeral” said the grieving mother.

She explained that her son had participated two days ago in the thesis viva of his older brother and had promised to throw him a party in celebration but the Israeli bullets assassinated him while wearing his medical gown.

She called for bringing to trial the leaders of the Israeli occupation before the international courts as her son did not carry a weapon and did not go to kill but went to do his volunteer work by providing aid to the injured.

A state of shock prevailed especially among the colleagues of the martyr who were accompanying him during the return marches as they could not believe his death.

Moments of farewell
In front of the mortuary his friends bid him a final farewell in preparation for transferring his body to his family’s house in the Sultan district west of Rafah leaving pain and grief in their hearts that time would not heal.

With agony and pain medic Mohammed Amr who accompanied the martyr during the return marches said: “The targeting of our colleague Abdullah will increase our determination to continue our work and we will not back down from carrying out our mission which our colleague and other martyrs paid their life for.”

The team in which the martyr volunteered named itself ‘Pulse of Life’ but with the martyrdom of their colleague Al-Quttati they changed the name to ‘Abdullah is the Pulse of Life’ according to Amr.

Al-Quttati joined the list of martyrs of the medical teams during the events of the return march and breaking the siege. The number of medics killed increased to three and 370 injuries according to the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health condemned the Israeli occupation forces continued targeting of medical personnel and ambulances.

Ashraf al-Qidra spokesman for the Ministry of Health said that the targeting of medical personnel led to the martyrdom of the volunteer medic Abdullah Sabri al-Quttati 20 years old east of Rafah and wounding five others.

He pointed out that medic Abdullah Al-Quttati was killed by a fatal bullet in the heart in addition to wounding five medics. He pointed out that this was deliberate targeting of ambulance crews despite wearing an internationally recognized medical vest.

Al-Qidra pointed out that a vehicle belonging to the medical services was hit on Friday (10/8/2018) by live bullets bringing the number of damaged vehicles to 70.

Al-Qidra called on international bodies to provide protection for medical personnel especially in the field and to compel the occupying forces to respect the rules of International Humanitarian Law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

The Ministry of Health named the medical point where Al-Quttati was killed after him in commemoration of his voluntary humanitarian work to heal the wounds of his people since the start of the Great March of Return and breaking the siege on 30 March 2018.
