Jewish settlers storm Halhul city for rituals

Thursday 26-July-2018

Dozens of extremist Jewish settlers stormed after midnight on Thursday Halhul city north of al-Khalil in the West Bank under tight military protection and performed rituals at the Mosque of Prophet Younis where a tomb is located.

Prophet Younis Mosque is the oldest and largest Islamic landmark in Halhul city.

Palestinian citizens living near the Mosque said that Israeli soldiers spread in their neighborhood and used small drones to take aerial footage and watch the area before they escorted the settlers out of the city later at dawn.

The tomb at the Mosque is frequently visited by Jewish settlers who believe it belongs to Prophet Younis (Jonah). They claim the site as theirs in an attempt to appropriate it and turn it into a Jewish shrine as they have done with the so-called Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus and Bilal Ibn Rabah Mosque in Bethlehem.
