Abbas: Embassy relocation to Occupied Jerusalem against int’l law

Tuesday 8-May-2018

Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Monday urged Latin American countries not to follow in Paraguay’s footsteps and move their embassies to Occupied Jerusalem.

“We hope that some countries across Latin America won’t go moving their embassies to Jerusalem because that is against international law” Abbas said during a meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas.

“Eastern Jerusalem has been occupied since 1967. It is the capital of Palestine as officially recognized by the majority of the world’s states” he added.

Abbas also expressed his willingness to carry out “serious” talks with Israel on the basis of international resolutions and in an attempt to boost efforts in favor of Palestine’s full membership at the UN.

The United States is pushing ahead with plans to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Occupied Jerusalem on May 14 a move that has sparked major protests by the Palestinians.
