15 Palestinians killed during Land Day protests

Friday 30-March-2018

At least 15 Palestinians were killed and hundreds injured on Friday by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in the Gaza Strip and West Bank during protests marking the 42nd anniversary of Land Day.

Thousands of Palestinians rallied along Gaza’s border with the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories in a major peaceful demonstration called the Great March of Return.

Spokesman for Gaza’s Ministry of Health Ashraf al-Qedra announced that 15 Palestinians were killed and about 1416 were injured by IOF gunfire.

The Ministry of Health said that two of the martyrs were killed after Israeli tanks stationed near the border fence opened fire at a group of civilians east of Beit Hanoun town in the northern Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said that 118 Palestinians were injured during confrontations with the IOF in different West Bank provinces.

Friday’s demonstrations were meant to commemorate Land Day which marks the 30th March 1976 when six Palestinian citizens of the 1948 occupied Palestine were killed by Israeli forces during protests against the Israeli government’s decision to confiscate massive tracts of Palestinian land.
