Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya affirmed that the targeting of Palestinian premier Rami al-Hamdallah’s motorcade was aimed to torpedo political files and not to inflict casualties.
In a speech during his participation in the funeral of two slain security officers on Wednesday Haneyya said that the bombing incident occurred at a sensitive political time for the Palestinian cause stressing that the motive for the attack was not to kill Palestinian officials.
Haneyya said that his Movement’s security forces worked side by side with the interior ministry in Gaza to unravel the crime and reach the perpetrators saluting all brave members of the security apparatuses who participated in the security operation to capture the culprits.
The interior ministry in Gaza on Thursday announced the death of two security officers during an operation launched in the morning to arrest citizens suspected of being behind the recent bombing attack on Hamdallah’s motorcade in northern Gaza.
The main suspect and one of his assistants were also killed in the same operation yesterday.
“The entire security apparatuses in Gaza backed by Hamas’s security capabilities and expertise worked from the first moment until the morning of today when they found the suspects following a sequence of events in which telecommunication companies in Gaza received external instructions not to cooperate with security investigators in Gaza” the Hamas political chief stated.
“We did not talk much in the past days although we heard things hurting anyone with a conscience including accusations political and media outbursts and attempts to exploit the bombing incident politically socially economically and for security purposes while the security apparatuses were still seeking leads” the Hamas official said.
“Those who were killed (the suspects) were tools and there are people behind them but we will not rush to announce conclusions” he added.
He said that the security services in Gaza worked night and day to capture the culprits and prevent any party from exploiting the bombing incident for dangerous purposes pointing out that the efforts were underway to get to all those involved in the attack.
