Israeli army steps up crackdowns on Palestinians in Nablus

Thursday 11-January-2018

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Wednesday closed the Hawara military checkpoint to the south of Nablus city in the northern West Bank.

The checkpoint which connects West Bank communities was closed in both directions.

A traffic jam flared up as a result of the closure forcing Palestinians to flock to Ourata thoroughfare as a detour.

The IOF further sealed off Nablus-Tulkarem access road and set up a checkpoint west of Deir Sharaf town.

According to the locals Israeli trucks laden with cement roadblocks have been caught on the Nablus-Qalqilya road.

Buses carrying Palestinian families have also been detained for three hours before they were allowed to pass through the area.

A student from Senjel town in Ramallah said he could not reach his university in Nablus to continue the enrollment procedures.

Israeli forces routinely place entire Palestinian villages under closures a policy which rights groups have called “collective punishment.”
