Dozens of Palestinian citizens in Jenin City on Friday staged a protest in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoner Sultan Khalaf who has been on hunger strike in Israeli jails for 15 days in protest at his administrative detention.
The protesters stressed that more attention should be given to the Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons and to the systematic violations they are subjected to by the Israel Prison Service.
They called for a larger campaign to support the hunger striking detainees affirming that the administrative detention (detention without charge or trial) blatantly violates international laws and conventions.
They also called on international human rights organizations especially the Red Cross to assume their responsibilities toward the Palestinian prisoners and work to put an end to their suffering.
An Israeli military court on Tuesday decided to delay Sultan Khalaf’s trial until 8 August.
Khalaf started an open hunger strike two weeks ago in protest at his detention without charge or indictment. Khalaf who was arrested on 8 July suffers from serious health problems that have recently worsened.
