3 Palestinians on open hunger strike in Israeli jails

Three Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails have been on hunger strike for different periods in protest at their detention administratively without charge or trial.

According to the Palestinian Prisoners Center for Studies the hunger strikers are Hasan al-Awiwi 35 Ouda al-Horoub 32 and Yousef al-Rjoub 50 and all of them are residents of al-Khalil.

Mohammed al-Awiwi a father of three and an ex-prisoner who was re-arrested in January started an open-ended hunger strike on 2 April after his four-month administrative detention order was renewed.

Ouda al-Horoub has been on hunger strike for 43 days. The Israel Prison Service has transferred him to Ramla prison clinic after his health deteriorated.

Yousef al-Rjoub started his hunger strike 20 days ago while the Israel Prison Service has banned his lawyer from visiting him.

About 500 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are held without indictment trial or any legal justification which violates international conventions.

Palestinian Prisoner Society on Wednesday said that there are three Palestinian detainees on open hunger strike in Israeli lock-ups.

According to a statement by Palestinian Prisoner Society Emran al-Khatib 60 has been on hunger strike for 39 days now in demand of his release.

Al-Khatib from the Gaza Strip is sentenced to life imprisonment and 12 years in jail.

Jamal Alqam a resident of Bethlehem who had spent about 13 years in Israeli jails started a hunger strike 15 days ago in protest at his administrative detention.

A resident of the West Bank city of Jenin Khader Adnan started an open hunger strike 11 days ago in protest at his arbitrary detention. Adnan had previously waged several hunger strikes against his administrative detention in Israeli jails.
