The Islamic Awqaf Council in Occupied Jerusalem on Tuesday affirmed that the Bab al-Rahma prayer area of the Aqsa Mosque would remain open adding that it would start to renovate the site in the next two days.
The Awqaf Council announced its intention to keep Bab al-Rahma open in response to the Israeli magistrate court’s decision to give it one week to close the site.
In this regard member of the Council Hatem Abdul-Qader said that the Council discussed during an emergency meeting on Tuesday the developments about the Aqsa Mosque’s Bab al-Rahma and the Israeli threats to close it.
Abdul-Qader added that the Council reiterated its previous position on not recognizing Israeli courts and the mandate the Israeli police gave themselves to control the Aqsa Mosque.
The Awqaf official also affirmed that the Council rejected the Israeli police’s intent to close the Bab al-Rahma prayer area.
He said that the Council started making contacts with the Jordanian authorities in order to pressure the Israeli occupation authority to keep its hand off the Aqsa Mosque.
