PLC votes to end Mahmoud Abbas’s mandate

Thursday 10-January-2019

The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) on Wednesday voted to remove the Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas from power.

During a session held at the PLC headquarters in Gaza Frist Deputy Speaker Ahmad Bahar said that Abbas has lost his legal constitutional moral and humanitarian capacity to continue in his post.

“The free political concessions offered by Abbas to the occupation his war on the resistance boasting about security cooperation and describing our people as terrorists make Abbas lack the political capacity to be the president of the Palestinian people” Bahar added.

Bahar stressed that Abbas’s Rafah crossing move was a prelude to separating the Gaza Strip from the West Bank in order to pave the way for the US-Israel “deal of the century”.

Bahar called on human rights organizations the Arab League the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Arab and Muslim countries to stop Abbas’s usurping power.

He appealed to Egypt who hosts the Palestinian reconciliation talks to intervene and put an end to Abbas’s arbitrary policies.

He also called on Palestinian factions and civil institutions to hold urgent meetings to establish a national rescue front and come out with a strategic vision to save the Palestinian national project.

Head of the political committee at the PLC Salah al-Bardawil said that cutting the salaries of Gaza employees leaving hundreds of families in extreme poverty and conspiring against the resistance are crimes punished by law.

MP Mushir al-Masri said that Abbas has destroyed Fatah movement and turned it into a tool to attack the Palestinian people.
