Life of cancer-stricken Palestinian prisoner at stake

The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) on Tuesday said that the Palestinian prisoner Sami Abu Dayyak 35 might die at any moment in Ramla jail’s clinic.

A PPS lawyer said quoting the representative of Palestinian prisoners in Israel’s Ramla jail that the health of cancer-stricken Abu Dayyak has seriously deteriorated.

The PPS said in a press statement that Abu Dayyak was diagnosed with cancer over three years ago. He also was a victim of medical malpractice at the Israeli Soroka Hospital in 2015 that later caused him kidney and lung failure.

Abu Dayyak a resident of Jenin who has been detained since 2002 is sentenced to three life imprisonments and 30 years. He is one of 700 Palestinians in Israeli jails who need urgent treatment.

Head of the PPS Qaddoura Fares held Israel responsible for the life of Abu Dayyak who should be released and allowed treatment as soon as possible.

Fares called on the World Health Organization to assume its responsibilities regarding the violations committed against sick prisoners in Israeli jails.

Palestinian Prisoner Society on Saturday said that the Palestinian detainee Rajae Abdulqader is suffering from serious health problems as he has been prevented by the Israel Prison Service from attending chemotherapy sessions for two months now.

A resident of Deir Ammar town in Ramallah Abdulqader 35 was diagnosed with liver and lung cancer in March 2018. Abdulqader has been detained since December 2015 and he is sentenced to 45 months in prison.

Head of the Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission Qadri Abu Baker held the Israeli government fully responsible for Abdulqader’s life.

Abu Baker said that Abdulqader’s health has gravely deteriorated and he must be transferred to the hospital immediately to complete his chemotherapy treatment.

He stressed that what Abdulqader is subjected to at Negev prison is beyond medical neglect. “It is a deliberate crime” he said.

He continued to say “The Israel Prison Service knows about the details of his health condition and is aware that his chances of surviving cancer are diminishing over time but it seems determined to kill him slowly.”

The Palestinian official called on local and international human rights organizations to pressure Israel to immediately release Abdulqader who has less than 8 months left of his sentence.
