The Palestinian Higher Fatwa Council has said that the Aqsa Mosque is a red line and belongs solely to the Muslim nation stressing that the entire world rejects Israel’s attempts to change the historical and religious status quo at the Mosque.
This came in a meeting held by the council on Thursday and chaired by Sheikh Mohamed Hussein Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine.
In a statement released following the meeting the council warned of threats made against the Palestinian holy sites by leaders of Israeli political parties during their recent election campaigns.
The council also condemned attempts by the Israeli government and its settler groups to Judaize Occupied Jerusalem and obliterate the Islamic and Arab identity of the holy city.
The council pointed to the encroachment of Israeli settlements over more Palestinian lands affirming that the Israeli occupation state seeks to impose a new demography through increasing the number of Jewish settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem and controlling Palestinian natural resources.
