Special hearing to be held today for prisoner Abu Hamid

Thursday 6-October-2022

A special Israeli committee is slated to hold a hearing on Thursday to study a request for the early release of cancer-stricken prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid whose health reached a life-threatening stage.

The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) stated that a special hearing for prisoner Abu Hamid would be held today after it was postponed twice in less than a month following objections submitted by Israeli prosecutors.

PPS said that Abu Hamid is exposed to ongoing medical neglect in Ramla jail despite his suffering from constant pains and severe pneumonia adding that his body no longer responds to the painkillers provided to him.

Two days ago Abu Hamid was transferred to Assaf Harofeh Hospital after he suffered sharp pains in his chest back and abdomen. He stayed there for one day before he was taken back to the Ramla prison infirmary.

Recently the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs said that Abu Hamid’s cancer spread to other parts of his body including the brain and bones.

It also said that he suffers from a sharp drop in weight severe pains all over his body and continuous muscle weakness.
